Beaux Gris Gris (pronounced \ˈbō\ \ˈgrē-(ˌ)grē\ ) & The Apocalypse is a New Orleans inspired, American blues folk soul band created by Louisiana-born-and-raised musician Greta Valenti (Well Hung Heart) and UK British Blues Hall of Fame Inductee, Robin Davey (The Hoax, DVL, Well Hung Heart). Joined by the talents of blues heavyweights Mark Barrett on Drums (The Hoax, DVL) and introducing Irish-American singer-songwriter Ali Coyle on Bass. Additional players often include Bob Fridzema (King King, Joanne Shaw Taylor), Steve Maggiora (Robert Jon & The Wreck), or Emma Jonson on Keys.
Greta Valenti grew up in the swampy homeland of Louisiana as a tom boy who loved to play dress up. Growing up poor, but in a musically talented family, her grandfather a ragtime piano player and her uncle and cousin all horn players and jazz musicians, she started performing, singing and playing various instruments from the age of 4. She spent her entire childhood performing in theatres across the state, later on Off-Broadway in NYC, and finally getting emancipated and moving to California at age 17. Not unlike the stories of Vaudevillian performers, Greta’s story has been a long wild journey of self-preservation and determination, of tragedy and hope, but this story isn’t over yet - some of it is just beginning. Had she been born a boy, her father (who abandoned the family when she was 4 years old), would have named her Beaux Gregory or translated to Beaux Gris Gris (Beautiful Grey Grey).
